gessov privacy policy

Last updated: 28 October 2026

gessov collects nothing about you. Everything the app knows stays on your iPhone. The only time anything reaches us is when you choose to write to us.

The short version

Who we are

gessov is made and published by Qianli Wang, an individual developer based in Australia (ABN 82 876 681 467). In this policy, “we” and “us” mean Qianli Wang. You can reach us at hello@gessov.com.

What we collect

Nothing, unless you write to us.

The app sends nothing to us. The one thing it sends on its own is a question to Apple’s App Store, when you open Settings, about whether a newer version of gessov is out; it carries only the app’s name and the country of your App Store. It contains no analytics, advertising or crash reporting service, and no third party code that collects data. The only outside code it uses is a database library that keeps your progress in a file on your iPhone; it sends nothing anywhere.

What stays on your device

To work, the app keeps a few things on your iPhone. We cannot see any of them.

Your settings

Your answers when choosing a volume

When you first open the app, it may ask what you want English for, how easy you find English explanations, and, if you are going abroad to study, which country. These answers are used only to suggest a volume and a daily number. They stay on your iPhone.

Your progress

The app uses this to decide what to show you next.

Your purchase

A record of whether you have Full, so the app knows what to unlock.

Where it lives, and how to remove it

All of this lives in the app’s own storage on your iPhone. It is not synced between devices. If you delete the app, all of this is deleted with it. If you use iCloud Backup or an encrypted backup to a computer, iOS may include it in that backup under Apple’s terms, not ours; that is also how it moves to a new phone.

When you write to us

There are two ways to write to us from inside the app: Contact us and Send flagged words, both in Settings. Each opens a draft in your own mail app, addressed to hello@gessov.com. Nothing is sent until you tap Send there.

What the draft contains

You can also share the flagged list through another app of your choice instead. In that case, that app’s terms apply.

What we receive and do with it

When you send an email, we receive your email address, the name your mail app shows, and what is in the email. We use it to answer you and to correct the words you flagged, and for nothing else. We do not add you to a mailing list, and we do not share or sell what you send.

Emails stay in our mailbox for as long as we need them to answer and follow up. Ask us to delete yours and we will.

Purchases

Full is sold through Apple’s App Store. Apple handles payment, renewal, refunds and cancellation, and Apple’s privacy policy covers what Apple collects. The app asks the App Store whether you have bought Full; that check happens directly between your iPhone and Apple, and we receive nothing from it. We never see your name, your payment details or your Apple Account.

Notifications

The daily reminder is optional and off until you turn it on. If you do, iOS asks for permission and the reminder is scheduled on your iPhone. Nothing leaves your device. Turn it off in the app’s Settings or in iOS Settings under Notifications.

Sound

Pronunciations were made in advance with a speech service, before the app was released, and are shipped inside the app. Playing one does not use the network, and nothing about you is involved.

Ratings and Apple’s own reports

After you have used gessov for a while, the app may show Apple’s standard rating prompt. Your rating goes to Apple; we see only the ratings and reviews that the App Store shows to everyone.

If you have chosen in iOS to share diagnostics with app developers, Apple may pass us anonymous crash reports. That choice is yours and lives in iOS Settings under Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements. We receive nothing else.

Children

gessov is made for people who want to understand English through English. It is not directed at children under 14, and it collects information from no one.

Your rights

We hold nothing about you from the app itself, so there is nothing there for us to show, correct or delete. Deleting the app removes all of its data from your iPhone.

If you have written to us, you can ask us to show you, correct or delete what you sent. Email hello@gessov.com and a person will answer.

This website

gessov.com is a static site served by Cloudflare. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads nothing from other sites; its fonts are served from gessov.com itself. Like any web host, Cloudflare sees each visitor’s IP address in order to deliver the page and protect the site; Cloudflare’s own privacy policy describes how it handles that. We do not receive or keep visitor logs.

Changes

If gessov ever starts to collect anything, this page will change before that version ships, the App Store privacy details will change to match, and the date at the top will be updated.
